Coping With A Cold

Being pregnant is a wonderful joyous event, most of the time. However, if you encounter the common cold during pregnancy (which is likely) it can be a bit unsettling. All of your favorite standby medications that you would normally reach for are totally off limits. You want to be careful of what you take to ensure that it is not detrimental to the health of the baby. Besides the option of not leaving your bed for the standard two to five day period it takes for the cold to run its course, there are a few natural remedies you can try to help ease symptoms and get you through your day.

First you want to make sure you are drinking plenty of water, getting extra rest and not skipping meals. This will allow your bodies natural defenses to work their hardest. To ease throat pain you can try zinc lozenges, and warm beverages such as warm water with honey and lemon. For stuffy noses try sleeping with a humidifier and saline drops. A warm shower works wonders for the minor aches and pains.

You do want to monitor your temperature closely. It is not good for the baby to get overheated. If you are running a fever that does not lower with acetaminophen, remain feeling bad for more than a few days or have any symptoms that seem unusual to you contact your physician.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately for me I caught a cold. And it's been the worst week of my life. Including because I cannot take anything because I'm pregnant. Thank you so much.
