How To Celebrate Your First Mothers Day
If this is your first year as the mother being celebrated, these following tips should help make your day even more special and memorable. Motherhood is one of the hardest responsibilities that women have. It is also the lowest paying and least appreciated. Therefore, one day a year, we get to demand the respect and appreciation otherwise neglected the rest of the year.
1. As this is your first one, baby is not old enough to make or buy the gifts that should be given. However, the father of said baby is old enough to shop, and should of course provide the necessary gifts. Jewelry and flowers are nice; gift certificates to your favorite stores are good as well.
2. You are the most important person involved on Mother’s Day; your husband/partner has his own day next month.
3. Start the day with your favorite breakfast, preferably served to you by the man in your life, while you recline in bed.
4. After breakfast, while above mentioned man cleans up the dishes, you should indulge yourself in your favorite relaxing activity. Some suggestions are a bubble bath, a leisurely walk with baby or even alone, or spend an hour or so reading the book you haven’t been able to get back to, or watching that movie that you didn’t get to finish watching.
5. Allow baby’s’ daddy to take care of baby, he can change diapers and make bottles, it won’t hurt either of them, I promise. Daddies can even hold crying babies, clean up after babies, and bathe babies too.
6. Do not allow your work to interfere, let your boss, your clients, or your employees know ahead of time that you will be unavailable on Mother’s Day.
7. Do not allow your man’s work to interfere today either, unless you’d rather he went to work.
8. If you are a single mother, spend the day simply enjoying baby, ignore the housework and other annoyances.
9. Another option for single mothers is to have the father take the baby for a few hours. Mother’s Day is about celebrating all the hard work we mother’s do every day, so we have the right to take this day off.
10. Start making your Mother’s Day plans now, so that when the day arrives you are able to enjoy every single minute of it, you only get one of these a year. Lists of chores and suggested gifts ideas for Daddy to do and to buy are the best place to start your Mother’s Day preparations.
