The Crib: A Blog for New Parents
Not So Funny Names Parents Give To Their Children
A man goes to the Birth Registration Office to register his newborn son.
The man behind the counter asks the name he wants to give to the boy, and the father replies, “Euro”.
The man says that such a name is not acceptable, because it’s a currency.
The father says: “What? There weren’t any objections when I called my first two sons Mark and Frank.”
You really have to wonder if some parents think about the long-term effects that their children will suffer from the name that they are given. Or if those parents have thought the name through, thoroughly. And if they actually did, but chose that particular name anyway, or intentionally, why? Having a sense of humor is very important to parents, especially if you hope to survive raising your children with your sanity intact. However, there is a point when you can cross the line between loving laughter because of your children, and cruelty at their expense.
We have all heard someone’s name and chuckled just a little, but the person with that funny name may not find any humor at all in his or her name.
I found these examples on several different websites, and though you have to laugh, because they are funny, just take into consideration what the name you’re about to inflict upon your child will sound like to the world.
