The Crib: A Blog for New Parents
Oh The Clothes!!!
It starts at the baby shower. I received clothing for my tots ranging from size 0- 3 months all the way to 18 months. Fortunately one of my friend’s (already a mom) gave me a gift that I have treasured. It was a set of plastic tags that hook onto the clothing rod with sizes printed on them. You use them to separate cloths into the size ranges.
The second problem you’ll discover is that children tend to grow, rapidly! Every couple of months you will find their entire wardrobe needs replacing. Although shopping for more baby cloths can be fun, if you aren’t careful you will be overrun with tiny layettes.
Combine these problems with the fact that children’s clothing, like adults, varies within a size your closet can get out of control quick.
My answer for this problem was to create what I call “The Rotating Closet”. I keep an empty laundry basket at the bottom of each child’s closet. When something doesn’t fit anymore I drop it in. I keep the closet organized with only the cloths that fit on one side. On the other is the next size up. Any cloths larger this is stored on the shelf above the closet. When the time comes to rotate out a whole sized wardrobe you can easily move things in this circle.
With just a little planning you can avoid hectic mornings for you and your child. You will spend much less time wondering if something still fits or changing several outfits to find something that does.
