There are many reasons you baby may be crying and none of them are just to irritate you. Many parents find a mental checklist helps them to get to the root of the cry and help to calm baby down.
Is she hungry? That one is easy, it is dinner time.
Is her diaper dirty? Another easy solution. However I have found the changing process can cause some additional, yet momentary discomfort for baby.
Is she too cold or too hot? Babies like to be warm and bundled. Generally, they need one more layer than you.
Maybe she is not feeling well. Check you baby’s temperature. Remember to add one degree if you take her temp under her arm.
Is there too much going on? Babies can become uncomfortable if the room is too noisy, too bright or they become over stimulated. Try a calm quiet environment and see if this helps.
Sometimes the reason is difficult to decipher. Your baby may just want to be held. Try rocking your baby and holding her close to your body. Babies like to hear you heartbeat and feel your warmth. Sucking is also a natural calming agent for babies. Just because she wants to suck does not mean she is hungry. The action itself is calming.
