What Are The Stars Naming Their Babies?
Frank Zappa was a pioneer in more things than music; he might just have been the original father of unique baby names. Ok, his kids names are rather far past unique, they’re down right bizarre. In 1967, it was popular to give babies names that were more traditional, there were quite a few David’s, Michael’s, James’s, Lisa’s, Mary’s, Susan’s, Jennifer’s, and Roberts. And there was one Moon Unit. In 1969, she was joined by brother Dweezil, 1974 brought brother, Ahmet Emuukha Rodin, and Diva Thin Muffin joined her siblings in 1979. It should be noted that the hospital where Dweezil was born refused to put that name on the birth certificate, and so Ian Donald Calvin Euclid Zappa was his legal name, though the family always called him Dweezil, and it was legally changed in 1976, at his request.
Frank Zappa was quoted once as saying that his “kids would have more problems because of their last name, rather than their first names”. Perhaps that has been true in their later lives, but I bet it wasn’t much fun for them in grade school classrooms during attendance time. Each one of Frank’s children has gone on to make names for themselves in the world, and they all kept the names given to them by their father. Moon Unit and Dweezil continued the family tradition of creative names, Mathilda Plum is Moon Unit’s daughter, and Zola Frank is Dweezil’s daughter.
Many celebrities of today have given their children names that most of us regular people wouldn’t choose, but I don’t believe that being the child of a super star means the other kids at school won’t tease you because of your name. Although, kids tease each other about everything at one point or another, and we all live through it. So, if these kids can stand up to the pressures of their names, your kids will be fine too.
