After spending months talking to your child without knowing for sure if your child understands a word you are saying it is exciting when you can finally understand a few syllables. Usually the first words are simple like mama, dada, and baba. Finally around one year and a half or so your child learns to communicate with a few more words and speaks clearly enough for you to understand. There will be times when you wish that you could turn that off. Toddlers learn to say what they hear most often. That is why the word no makes an appearance early on. However, be warned, your child will repeat what they hear whether you want them to or not. It is completely adorable when my one year old offers “peas” and “tank you” to anyone who offers him anything. It is not as cute when he lets out a forceful “no” or “not nice” wherever we may be and whenever you fail to bend to his will. Toddlers don’t quite understand how to act appropriately in different situations they just speak their mind wherever and whenever the mood strikes. So, choose your words carefully when speaking to your child because in might not be long before you hear those same words coming out of their little mouth
