Okay, so me and my mom got into this huge discussion about the spelling of my little girls name. Now, after reading one of the blogs about that fact that, yes it could cause problems when they go to school. I just want to know some of your opinions. Okay, so we decided to name her Nyna. Which would be pronounced as Nina, which is the common spelling. Is this a confusing way to spell it? Or is it obvious that it's pronounced like Nina? Any and all opinions are welcome.

Hi! When I read the name Nyna, my first thought was that it would be pronounced as Nine-a, a single y, in the middle of a word, is usually taken as an I sound. Like why, and sky. A single y at the end of a word is commonly taken as an ee sound, as in happy. I'm not sure if this will actually help, but the spelling that you choose, or chose is really just a matter of your preference. These days, we don't really have to stick with the traditional spellings or pronunciations. Distinctive and unique are the new traditions.

The "y" adds and "i" sound in like Ty. I would say stick to Nina or Neena if you realy want to change the spelling.

I thought it would be pronounced Nina, seeing as it has become quite common to replace an i with a y in a name.

I thought Nine-a too when I read it. Nina is one of my favorite names but I never would have made the connection.

I initially thought "nine-a" too, but it's a tough call because it looks very nice with the "y"

"Nyna": The 'Ny' gave me the immediate impression I would pronounce it "Nai-nah" (Like 'Ny-Quil'). I think it will cause problems and possibly resentment on her behalf; plus, she will FOREVER have to be correcting everyone on how her name is really supposed to be spelled, no doubt. Personally, I like Nina or Neena, even...Neina would even be better, in this case, than 'Nyna' I believe. Best of luck
